Yentna River Lodge is a small family owned and operated sport fishing lodge that caters to small groups of fishermen. We provide an informal relaxed atmosphere while experiencing excellent fishing and the wild outdoors. Staff is available for fish cleaning and smoking of your catch if time allows.
We are located 80 miles northwest of Anchorage and 8 miles north and west of Skwentna along the banks of the Yentna River. It is only about a 40 minute flight by air taxi from Lake Hood. We have a 1500 foot grass runway beside the lodge for aircraft on wheels. Float planes land on the Yentna River and taxi up to the lodge.
The main lodge is 2-story, equipped with A/C power, freezers, hot shower, phone service, a full kitchen and room for relaxing and telling stories about the days catch. Upstairs are single beds used when necessary. Our original cabin is a preserved homestead trappers cabin built in the 1940's and has 3 single beds and 1 double bed. Many of our return customers request these accommodations. Our second cabin is a 2-story with a large king sized bed and kitchenette on the first floor an 4 single beds upstairs. Both floors have their own access and balcony.
Fishing season starts the first of June and runs to the first of September. Generally king salmon arrive around the first week in June and run until the first of July. Red salmon show up around July 15. Silver and pink run from around the first of August until the first of September. Rainbow trout are available during the entire summer but not in large numbers.
Clients can fly fish for all species, however, most prefer using spinning gear as we do not have fast water. Our fishing area is easily navigated and clients are assigned their own boats which are equipped with small outboard motors. Guides are available if requested. Our fishing area starts at the lodge and extends to the mouth of the Yentna River, along with another small creek off the main fishing grounds. We have extremely safe fishing for clients to do on their own.
Wildlife that can be seen and photographed from the lodge includes river otters, beaver, eagles, bear, and the occasional moose.
We encourage you to think about using Yentna River Lodge as an incentive for your company employees or possibly entertaining your clients and associates. We specialize in groups of 4 to 6 people for 2 to 3 days trips and we get a number of clients who love the father/son fishing getaway. Longer stays are welcome of course!
